A skilled modder has unveiled an impressive handheld gaming PC that boasts specifications surpassing those of the popular Steam Deck, setting a new benchmark for portable gaming power.

In today’s gaming landscape, accessibility has taken on a whole new meaning. Thanks to the emergence of handheld consoles and PCs, such as the ROG Ally and Steam Deck, gamers can enjoy their favorite titles almost anywhere, simply by carrying these devices in public spaces.

While the convenience of these handheld gaming options is undeniable, they do come with certain limitations. A significant concern is their relative lack of power compared to traditional gaming PCs and laptops, which can restrict the gaming experience.

One enterprising user, known as Qinyen DIY, recently showcased a remarkable handheld PC-like device on the Chinese platform Bilibili.

The device, which features a striking green design, includes a sizable 12.5-inch screen and integrated controllers, making it reminiscent of a compact laptop in its aesthetics.

According to a report by VideoCardz, Qinyen DIY took an RTX 4090 laptop GPU, meticulously stripped it down, and reassembled the internals into this innovative handheld format.

This custom device is powered by a Core i9 14900HX CPU housed in what appears to be a Tongfang chassis, boasting a remarkable 64GB of DDR5 RAM and a generous 2TB SSD. Despite the high specifications, the cooling system effectively maintains the GPU temperature below 160 degrees, ensuring optimal performance.

In a demonstration video, the modder highlighted the exceptional graphics capabilities of the device, showcasing its ability to run graphically intensive titles. For example, Cyberpunk 2077 operated at an impressive 60 FPS at 4K resolution, with the GPU temperature reaching only 72ºC. Meanwhile, God of War exceeded 100 FPS, remaining within a similar thermal range.

While the specifications and performance are certainly commendable, potential users might wonder about the practicalities of using such a bulky device for prolonged gaming sessions. Its sizable form factor could present challenges in terms of comfort during extended play.
