In the sixth episode of Season 3, titled ‘Napkins,’ Tina’s backstory was explored, tracing her journey to becoming a member of The Original Beef of Chicagoland. Despite facing challenges in her search for employment, she finds solace in Mikey, who ultimately offers her a position as his new line cook.
The moment in The Bear’s timeline is filled with poignancy, and for good reason – it is directed by Ayo Edebiri, who also portrays Sydney. This adds to the emotional impact of the scene.
Edebiri shared with Variety her experience directing for the first time, stating, “I feel like I received a master class in acting not only from Liza, but also from the other talented actors who graced the screen.”She also expressed her gratitude for the valuable lessons she learned from the crew and camera department.
“It was an amazing experience and privilege to direct an episode that highlights the incredible range of talents that Liza possesses. Although we were only able to showcase a small portion of her abilities, it was clear that she is a force to be reckoned with.”
Edebiri shared with the BBC that she gained a greater appreciation for her cast and the intense effort required to create television, after being able to collaborate with them from a different perspective.
