With The Bear Season 3 currently available for streaming, many fans have recently discovered that one of its most beloved characters is portrayed by a well-known chef in real life, despite never showcasing his cooking skills on the show.
Neil Fak has been a reliable presence in The Bear cast since its first season, consistently providing assistance with tasks such as fixing a flickering light, rewiring a faulty fuse, or lending a helping hand whenever necessary.
During the transition from Season 2 to Season 3, he even switches roles to become a server, utilizing his anxious charisma to serve the restaurant’s customers.
Despite having spent numerous occasions in the kitchen, he has never actually prepared a dish. This may seem amusing, considering Matheson’s reputation as an award-winning chef, popular internet figure, and owner of multiple successful restaurants. Additionally, he has authored two books and made appearances in various web series.

Since the show’s inception, he has served as an executive producer for The Bear. Although it may come as a surprise to some viewers, the fact that he never cooks anything on the show is actually part of the joke, which has now been fully understood.

In a 2023 interview with Variety, Matheson revealed that despite his fears, he still finds acting to be nerve-wracking and intimidating.
Aside from his leading role, he utilizes his knowledge (in collaboration with the show’s culinary producer, Courtney Storer) to ensure the authenticity of the show’s menus.
