Why Natsuo Dislikes Endeavor in My Hero Academia: An Explanation

The highly anticipated release of My Hero Academia Chapter 426 on Monday, July 1, 2024 was overshadowed by the early leak of alleged spoilers. Despite this, fans were treated to the long-awaited reunion of the Todoroki family, with Endeavor seemingly making progress in mending his relationship with Toya. However, Natsuo’s resentment towards his father remained unchanged.

Despite being the third child and second son of Enji and Rei Todoroki, Natsuo Todoroki was rarely treated poorly by his father like his brothers were. One might assume that this would lead to some affection towards his father, but in reality, Natsuo holds the strongest hatred towards Enji. The question remains, what caused such animosity towards his own father?

Please be aware that this article includes spoilers from the My Hero Academia manga.

Why does Natsuo hate his father in My Hero Academia?

Despite inheriting his mother’s “Frost”Quirk, Natsuo Todoroki still harbors resentment towards his father Enji Todoroki for the pain and suffering he caused their family. Unlike his two brothers who were blessed with their father’s “Flame”Quirk, Natsuo received no guidance or teachings from his father due to their differing abilities.

Therefore, since both of his brothers, Toya and Shoto, possessed Flame-based Quirks, Enji Todoroki dedicated separate occasions to their training, subjecting them both to intense challenges.

Despite initially admiring his father and desiring to be trained by him, Toya Todoroki’s dreams were shattered when Enji was no longer able to continue training him due to the harm it caused to his body. This caused Toya to train alone, determined to prove his worth to his father. This determination ultimately led to his “death”at Sekoto Peak and eventual return as Dabi.

Shoto Todoroki inherited quirks from both his parents, Enji and Rei, resulting in his unique “Half-Cold Half-Hot”abilities. This was the desired outcome of Enji’s Quirk Marriage, leading him to focus solely on Shoto and neglect his other family members.

Despite the initial impression that Natsuo had the better deal by not enduring his father’s rigorous training, it ultimately led to the deterioration of his relationship with Endeavor. While Toya and Shoto harbored hatred towards their father, their shared time with him allowed for some semblance of paternal love to form.

Despite Natsuo’s longing for his father’s love and attempts to gain his attention in the past, Enji was solely focused on training Shoto and neglected Natsuo and his other siblings. However, Natsuo remained resilient for the sake of Toya, who idolized their father. Sadly, this all changed when Toya passed away.

After Toya’s passing, Natsuo’s sole companion was his sister Fuyumi. His mother Rei was hospitalized and his brother Shoto was compelled to undergo intensive training. As a result, Natsuo began to feel isolated. This isolation eventually transformed into bitterness towards his father, as he blamed Enji for tearing their family apart.

Despite his other family members having had the opportunity to spend significant time with his father, Natsuo never got the chance to truly know him. As a result, he was able to view his father’s actions without any emotional bias and grew to resent him for them.

Natsuo’s decision to stop seeing his father was also motivated by this same reason. Despite being engaged to his girlfriend, he had no plans to introduce her to his father or to meet him himself.
