On June 25th, the term “NewJeans-like”was added to the information site Namuwiki. This term refers to subpar service in relation to its cost. By 11 a.m. on the same day, “NewJeans-like”had already climbed to the fourth spot in the real-time search keyword rankings on Namuwiki.
The clothing brand NewJeans recently joined forces with the popular game “PUBG: Battlegrounds”. However, after the collaboration was announced, there were reports of sexual harassment towards NewJeans members using their in-game characters. Certain players dressed the characters in a suggestive manner and shared screenshots online, leading to a heated debate due to the fact that some of the NewJeans members are underage.
Several individuals noted that this was feasible due to the absence of limitations on the clothing choices for the game avatars. In light of this, ADOR, the agency representing NewJeans, and Krafton, the creator of PUBG, declared that they will implement measures to prevent the inclusion of items that do not align with the collaboration’s goal of promoting a healthier gaming environment and ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all players.
The importance of following our community guidelines for all PUBG users was stressed. These guidelines strictly forbid any postings of inappropriate content and failure to comply can lead to restrictions on gaming privileges.
As a result of the guidelines, gamers have voiced their dissatisfaction and coined the term “NewJeans-like”in online communities to ridicule the group. This is due to the limitations on customization options in the game, which prevent players from using their purchased items as they normally would.
Similarly, singer Kim Chang-ryul was also affected by the use of the phrase “Kim Chang-ryul-like”during the controversy surrounding the affordable convenience store lunch boxes. This has caused concern among fans that the phrase, popularized by PUBG gamers, may harm the reputation of the girl group.
