Puella Magi Madoka Magica – Walpurgisnacht: Rising movie delayed to 2025

On Friday, August 16, 2024, the Madoka Magica franchise’s official website and X (formerly Twitter) account announced that the release of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica – Walpurgisnacht: Rising movie has been postponed to 2025 due to production issues. The film was originally scheduled to premiere in Winter 2024.

The upcoming film, Puella Magi Madoka Magica – Walpurgisnacht: Rising, will serve as a sequel to the October 2013 release of Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion. This highly anticipated movie will finally end a decade-long wait for fans.

Notably, the Madoka Magica franchise centers around a group of girls who enter into contracts with Supernatural beings in order to become Magical Girls. The original movie was released in October 2012, and was followed by a sequel later that same year.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica – Walpurgisnacht: Production Issues Cause Delay of Rising Movie Until 2025

The Madoka Magica franchise’s official staff issued a delay notice on Friday, August 16, 2024, stating that the release of the movie, Puella Magi Madoka Magica – Walpurgisnacht: Rising, has been pushed back to 2025. As previously stated, the original plan was for the film to premiere in Japanese theaters during Winter of 2024.

Despite the staff’s released statement citing “production reasons,”it has been announced that the movie will be delayed. The staff has expressed their sincere apologies to fans who were eagerly anticipating the next installment of the franchise.

Significantly, the movie was revealed during the 10th Anniversary Stage event for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise in 2021. Subsequently, the team at the Aniplex Online Fest 2023 unveiled a trailer and key visual, officially announcing that the film would debut in Winter 2024.

Additional information about the upcoming film Puella Magi Madoka Magica – Walpurgisnacht: Rising will be disclosed during Aniplex Online Fest 2024. Aniplex has announced that the festival, scheduled for September 16, 2024, will showcase over 20 anime series such as Solo Leveling, Wind Breaker, and many more.

The film will include the same cast and crew as the original series, including Akiyuki Sinbo as the chief director and Miyamoto Yukihiro as the director. The production of the movie is being handled by Studio SHAFT.

The screenplay for the franchise will once again be crafted by Gen Urobuchi, while character designs will be handled by Ume Aoki. Junichiro Taniguchi is credited as the chief animation director, with Yuki Kajira joining the team as the music composer.

The upcoming movie, Puella Magi Madoka Magica – Walpurgisnacht: Rising, is expected to continue the story from the previous film and explore a new perspective of Homura Akemi. There is currently no official synopsis available for the film.
