QTCinderella’s Streamer Awards: A Near Success Derailed by Last-Minute Sponsor Withdrawal
QTCinderella, the prominent Twitch streamer and organizer behind The Streamer Awards, recently disclosed that this year’s event was tantalizingly close to being profitable. Unfortunately, a significant sponsor withdrew support at the eleventh hour due to controversies surrounding a particular nominee.
The Evolution of The Streamer Awards
Introduced by QTCinderella, The Streamer Awards aims to recognize and celebrate the contributions of streamers while fostering robust fan engagement. Since its inception, four ceremonies have taken place, with two events scheduled for 2024. Interestingly, the awards have transitioned from their original early-year schedule to a later date in the calendar, which appears to have enhanced viewer interest.
Record-Breaking Viewership
The second installment of 2024 achieved impressive milestones, attracting over 646,000 concurrent viewers, marking it as the event’s largest audience to date. Despite this surge in popularity, QTCinderella lamented that the awards have yet to turn a profit, a sentiment expressed during her recent appearance on the PressESC podcast alongside fellow streamers Valkyrae and Alythuh.
During the podcast, she remarked,
“Well, a sponsor pulled out last second. It was the first year it was almost profitable, but they pulled out last second. I was so sad.”
Sponsor Controversy and Unveiled Nominee
The surprising and late withdrawal of the sponsor led Valkyrae to express her outrage, deeming the action “disgusting” and questioning the sponsor’s identity for future avoidance. QTCinderella teased that she would still recommend the sponsor despite the incident. Eventually, she revealed the sponsor’s identity, prompting a shocked reaction from Valkyrae but opted not to disclose the problematic nominee.
The podcast team ensured the nominee’s identity remained confidential, leaving fans and viewers speculating. Prominent brands like Mountain Dew, Fortnite, and PC Game Pass had partnered with The Streamer Awards, alongside other sponsors including YouTube and various games such as Honkai: Star Rail and Teamfight Tactics.
On that night, Kai and Speed emerged as prominent winners, adding to the evening’s excitement. However, speculation regarding the withdrawn sponsorship swirled, particularly involving popular streamers like Destiny and Hasan Piker, stirring dialogue among fans.
Destiny expressed frustration about the podcast editing out the sponsor’s name, surmising that this choice might allow streamers to maintain future associations with said sponsor without repercussions. As discussions continued, QTCinderella reflected on her aspirations for the awards, expressing a desire to sustain them for at least five years. However, she indicated that profitability and streamer participation would influence her decision on their long-term future.
