Ever since January 2013, Gallup Korea has been conducting monthly surveys on “Favorite TV Programs,”which differ from TV ratings in that they do not simply measure viewership. Instead, these surveys reflect the emotional preferences of Koreans across various time slots, spaces, channels, and media.

In the May 2024 survey of “Favorite TV Programs of Koreans,””Queen of Tears”maintained its top spot with a 3.9% preference rate. This was the third consecutive month in which the drama held the first place, having also ranked first in the March and April surveys. This made it the first 16-episode drama to achieve such an extraordinary feat.

According to Gallup Korea, despite a significant decrease in preference rate from 13.1% in April to 3.9% in May, the drama “Queen of Tears”was able to maintain its popularity and captivate viewers until the final episode aired nearly a month after its premiere in March. This is a rare achievement, as the drama managed to capture the top spot just two weeks after its initial airing. Additionally, the drama is close to surpassing 300 million hours of global cumulative viewing time.
