“Queen of Tears” Ending: There’s an Answer in Writer Park Ji-eun’s Previous Works

Despite receiving criticism for its frustrating development, episode 14 of the drama features protagonist Hong Hae-in (played by Kim Ji-won) undergoing surgery and developing amnesia. However, the remaining two episodes are highly anticipated as viewers are eager to see how Baek Hyun-woo (played by Kim Soo-hyun) and Hong Hae-in will overcome the crisis.

Netizens have taken notice of writer Park Ji-eun’s past works, as she has a tendency to include hints towards the endings in her writing.

In the 2013 drama “My Love from the Star”by SBS, plants served as a crucial piece of evidence. The characters Do Min-joon (played by Kim Soo-hyun) and Cheon Song-yi (played by Jun Ji-hyun) stumble upon a tree with two trunks on an island, symbolizing the fusion of the extraterrestrial Do Min-joon and the human Cheon Song-yi.

Moreover, the plant that Do Min-joon cultivates serves as an indicator of his well-being, offering a helpful hint for deduction.

In the 2015 KBS2 drama “The Producers”, “penalty shootout”was a prominent theme. In the epilogue, Ra Joon-mo (portrayed by Cha Tae-hyun) foils a shot from Baek Seung-chan (portrayed by Kim Soo-hyun), implying a potential relationship between Ra Joon-mo and Tak Ye-jin (portrayed by Gong Hyo-jin). The drama concluded with the satisfaction of netizens, who had speculated about the happy ending for the Ra Joon-mo and Tak Ye-jin couple.

“As with writer Park’s previous works, “Queen of Tears”also utilizes foreshadowing to hint at a potentially happy ending.”

The initial foreshadowing is seen through the mention of “first snow”and “balsam leaves”. In episode 13, Hae-in paints her nails with balsam leaves, following a legend that states if one’s nails are still stained from the first snow of the year, their first love will come true.

In the 14th episode, it is revealed that Hae-in’s first love is Baek Hyun-woo, and as the first snow falls in Germany, Hae-in can be seen checking the balsam leaves outside her window. Despite Hae-in’s memory loss, netizens were hopeful for a happy ending.

The second instance of foreshadowing centers on a painting hanging in Hae-in’s room. After an art analysis YouTuber pointed out a long horizontal line in the work by artist Jeon Eun-suk, it was theorized that it symbolizes Hae-in’s confusion and distorted reality. This led to speculation that the drama may ultimately have a positive resolution, as indicated by the vibrant and lively hues depicted in the painting.

There is also some speculation that the show may have a happy ending, possibly due to a mention of “pregnancy”in episode 11. Hae-in reveals to her family that her white blood cell count has increased, which is a common occurrence for pregnant women, often increasing up to 2-3 times. This allowed Hae-in to undergo surgery in Germany.

Some internet users are speculating that the mulberries given to Aunt Hong Beom-ja (played by Kim Jung-nan) by Young-sung (played by Kim Young-min) may have had an impact, leading to speculation that Hae-in could be expecting. Several netizens have even predicted that the couple, who previously experienced a miscarriage, may be blessed with a new addition to their family.

The drama “Queen of Tears”is currently airing on tvN and is gaining much attention. Its predecessor, “Crash Landing on You”, achieved a viewership rating of 21.7% (Nielsen Korea, nationwide paid households), making it the highest-rated drama on the network. As the remaining two episodes of “Queen of Tears”air, there is much anticipation as to whether it can surpass the record set by “Crash Landing on You”.
