Queen of Tears Fans Furious at Baeksang Results

At the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards held on May 7 at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Kim Soo-hyun and IVE’s Ahn Yujin were awarded the Prism Popularity Award. Despite being nominated for the Best Actor Award – Drama, Kim Soo-hyun lost to Nam Goong Min from MBC’s “My Dearest”.

Even though Nam Goong Min rightfully received an award for his outstanding ability to uplift the mood during MBC dramas’ crisis, fans of “Queen of Tears” , a highly acclaimed K-drama of the year, are disappointed that Kim Soo-hyun, the main actor, was only recognized with a popularity award.

During the Baeksang Arts Awards ceremony, there were numerous predictions made by online communities that Kim Soo-hyun would win a Daesang in the TV category. However, the award was ultimately given to Disney+’s “Moving,”leaving many confused as Kim Soo-hyun’s role seemed to have little significance in the winning production.

On various online communities, there has been a lot of speculation about why Kim Soo-hyun did not receive a top award. Some devoted fans have even expressed their disappointment after ‘Moving’ was declared the winner.

“With a record-breaking viewership rating of 24.9% (according to Nielsen Korea’s cable standard), “Queen of Tears”solidified its position as the top-rated tvN drama. Its success eclipsed all other topics, generating widespread buzz and elevating the popularity of its lead actors, including Kim Soo-hyun, Kim Ji-won, Park Sung-hoon, Lee Joo-bin, Kwak Dong-yeon, and others.”

Despite being fully aware of the situation, the Baeksang Arts Awards were unable to consider “Queen of Tears”for evaluation due to the unfavorable timing. The awards only review works that were aired between April 1 of the previous year and March 31 of the current year, while “Queen of Tears”premiered on March 9 and concluded in April.

Despite the fact that the evaluation was conducted after a mere four weeks, “Queen of Tears”did not receive the amount of awards it deserved. It has been noted that had “Queen of Tears”been released a month earlier, either Kim Soo-hyun or the drama itself may have been awarded the Daesang.
