The recently concluded drama, “Queen of Tears”on tvN’s Sat-Sun slot, follows the love story of Hong Hae-in (Kim Ji-won) and Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo-hyun), a wealthy couple who rekindle their love after overcoming a crisis in their third year of marriage. The drama was broadcasted on tvN, TVING, and Netflix, with its finale airing on April 28th.
Based on Netflix’s statement, “Queen of Tears”has accumulated a total viewing time of 287.6 million hours as of April 21st. With a consistent increase in viewership over the past seven weeks, it is likely to reach over 300 million hours in the near future.
Surpassing all other K-dramas, the drama achieved its highest ranking on the global OTT ranking service FlixPatrol in the fourth week of April (April 22nd – 28th), placing second in the weekly rankings.
Even after the drama ended, “Queen of Tears”continued to garner attention from overseas media outlets, not just in Korea. Following the final episode on the 28th, US entertainment media outlet Screen Rant praised Korea’s evolution in the romance genre, stating that they have successfully combined modern elements and captured the hearts of viewers worldwide with “Queen of Tears”.
Furthermore, various news outlets such as UK’s NME, Singapore’s leading daily newspaper The Straits Times, and India’s Times of India, among others, also reported on the record-breaking viewership of “Queen of Tears”as it aired its final episode on tvN, making it the highest-rated drama in the network’s history.
At the same time, the latest installment of “Queen of Tears”garnered an average viewership rating of 28.4% in the Seoul region, reaching a real-time peak of 31%. Nationally, it achieved a rating of 24.9% with a peak of 27.3%. Additionally, the drama continued to dominate the TV-OTT popularity chart released by Good Data Corporation in the fourth week of April, maintaining its position at the top for 8 consecutive weeks.
