Quentin Tarantino, a renowned film enthusiast, has no plans to watch one particular movie – a sentiment shared by his fans who also advise against viewing it.
Tarantino’s signature style of referencing and paying homage to various films can be seen throughout his entire filmography, albeit in a visual manner. For instance, the glowing suitcase in Pulp Fiction is a nod to the 1955 film Kiss Me Deadly, while the iconic theme of Kill Bill, “Battle Without Honor or Humanity”, is taken from a 2000 yakuza film. Additionally, it is evident that long portions of The Hateful Eight draw inspiration from John Ford’s Stagecoach.
To clarify, in order to create films similar to his, it is necessary to consume a large number of movies. Nevertheless, he does have boundaries, which are not related to graphic violence or offensive content – he simply chooses not to acknowledge their existence.
The film in question is Toy Story 4, the highly praised conclusion to Pixar’s flawless trilogy (despite there being plans for a Toy Story 5, for unknown reasons). You can hear his thoughts in the video clip below (beginning at 13:45).
During his appearance on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast, Tarantino shares his thoughts on the fallibility of trilogies. He believes that Clint Eastwood’s Dollars series is the greatest trilogy of all time, followed closely by Toy Story.
According to him, the third installment of Toy Story is simply brilliant, ranking among the top movies he has ever watched. For those who have already seen the previous two movies, it is sure to leave a lasting impact.
“However, three years later, a fourth installment was released. Despite its potential quality, I have no interest in watching it. The story had already been concluded perfectly, and I have no desire to see any further additions. While it may still be enjoyable, I am content with how the story ended and have no need for more.”
Despite being a beloved and award-winning film, the majority of people still share Tarantino’s sentiment when it comes to the fourth installment of Toy Story. In fact, one user expressed on Twitter that the film was unnecessary due to the authenticity of Tarantino’s previous work.
According to another comment, “To this day I have not watched the fourth movie and, like Tarantino, I have no interest in seeing it. This trilogy will always be the best.”
“I completely agree that the fourth installment is not incorrect. However, it seemed unnecessary and at times resembled fanfiction rather than a true sequel. And this opinion is shared by a devoted fan of the series,”commented a third source.
