Rachel Yaffe, TikTok Star, Passes Away at 27 Due to Rare Liver Cancer

Following a courageous seven-year battle against a rare form of liver cancer, TikTok influencer Rachel Yaffe has passed away at the young age of 27.

Rachel Yaffe, a TikTok star, was first diagnosed with this uncommon liver cancer when she was only 20. Tragically, she succumbed to the disease on October 11, 2024.

Yaffe was battling fibrolamellar carcinoma, a type of cancer that usually affects otherwise healthy young people without significant risk factors.

Her diagnosis came after she originally suspected she had gluten sensitivity; further medical examination revealed a significant 20 cm tumor on her liver.

Immediately after discovery, Yaffe was rushed into surgery to remove the tumor. Unfortunately, three months later, it reappeared and metastasized to her lungs.

Throughout her ordeal, Yaffe made significant changes to her diet in an effort to strengthen her immune system with vital nutrients. Despite her hopes for a swift resolution to her ‘healing journey’, the alternative treatments she pursued were not enough to combat her aggressive illness.

This February marked a grave turning point for Yaffe when she suffered a lung hemorrhage. In a TikTok update, she explained that bleeding occurred after a tumor exerted pressure on her heart, which obstructed airflow to her lung.

Following this incident, she underwent multiple critical surgeries and required intubation for three days. Her parents ultimately agreed to allow her to receive radiation therapy and immunotherapy.

“Radiation took so much out of me, and I feel like I’m starting from scratch,” Yaffe expressed in a social media message. “It’s challenging to motivate myself to move, but I’m working diligently towards that. Being in the city has made it somewhat easier to walk around. Additionally, I am adhering strictly to a demanding diet designed for cancer recovery, which requires a great deal of energy.”

In her final days, Yaffe passionately shared her aspirations, recounting how she had “so many dreams for my future.”

“I’ve got so many aspirations for my future and a deep desire to share my life experiences with others so they can bypass the challenging moments and embrace the joyful, healthy times ahead.”

Reflecting on her life before diagnosis, she stated, “the sports field was my sanctuary.” As her battle with stage 4 cancer progressed, she found solace in “a good romantic comedy, a Netflix series, or a reality show.”

In her last TikTok update from September, filmed in her Manhattan apartment, she expressed her determination to “concentrate on the little things that bring me happiness.”

Rachel Yaffe’s passing is not an isolated tragedy; she joins the ranks of other TikTok personalities who have recently lost their lives due to health-related issues. Most notably, on October 5, Taylor Rousseau Grigg, just 25 years old, died following a severe asthma attack exacerbated by Addison’s disease.
