Rachel Zegler’s Highly Anticipated Horror Film from Hereditary Studio Looks Insane

The production company responsible for Hereditary appears to be embracing a more exaggerated and bloody style of horror for Rachel Zegler’s Y2K, as evidenced by the release of its first trailer.

Before embarking on her promotional tour for the live-action Snow White adaptation, Rachel Zegler is testing her skills as a scream queen in the upcoming 2024 film, Y2K.

The production of the horror movie was helmed by A24, the same company responsible for Hereditary and Midsommar. It was both written and directed by Kyle Mooney, a former SNL cast member.

In Y2K, Zegler will join forces with co-stars Jaeden Martell and Julian Dennison as they battle for survival against a technological uprising with the goal of wiping out humanity.

This film draws its inspiration from the Year 2000 Problem, a purported glitch that was predicted to happen on January 1, 2000. It was believed that this glitch would lead to a worldwide technology shutdown, putting millions at risk by disrupting banking systems, power plants, and transportation.

As the year 2000 approached, numerous programmers were convinced that computers would not recognize “00”as the year 1900. This was due to a previous two-digit code that represented the year, causing “1970”to be displayed as “70.”

It was foreseen that this malfunction would cause irreparable harm to any program being updated daily or annually.

The widespread concern of the Y2K bug causing the apocalypse led to the passing of the Year 2000 Information and Readiness Disclosure Act by the US government in 1998, which aimed to promote transparency among companies regarding their strategies to address the issue.

Despite the world welcoming the new year, the Y2K bug had minimal impact on computers and life carried on as usual.

Nonetheless, A24 and Mooney’s most recent endeavor will present audiences with a glimpse of what might have transpired if Y2K had truly taken place, albeit in a more eccentric fashion. The preview features Zegler and her companions fleeing from gadgets such as a Tomagotchi, using a power drill and an antique laptop with a makeshift flame thrower.
