An extremely rare Umbreon TCG card, valued at over a thousand dollars, has reportedly been stolen in a recent incident.
While Pokémon appeals to fans of all ages, the franchise has unfortunately been associated with various criminal activities, ranging from daylight robberies to thieves stealing a $500,000 Pokémon card collection from a 62-year-old individual.
According to a post in a Reddit thread, a user has claimed that an Umbreon VMAX Alt Art card from the Evolving Skies set has been stolen in an unfortunate event.
This secret rare card features artwork of a giant Umbreon reaching for the moon, with an estimated value of up to $1,200, based on data from Price Charting.
This card with this certification number was stolen from my local LGS yesterday. We’re looking for some info on it. by u/MegaAscension in PokemonTCG
The user mentioned in the comments that the card was taken while the shop owner was “pulling stuff from a recent grading submission.”Despite the presence of cameras in the store, the recording setup malfunctioned a few days prior to the theft, and the owner had not had a chance to restart them yet.
“It’s a one-man shop, but he has two friends who help out a couple of days a week,” they explained. Concerning the stolen card, they indicated that multiple people are currently searching for it both locally and online.
“It’s not my store, personally, but the owner is trying to spread the word. We all appreciate this LGS; they are truly the only store within two hours that genuinely cares about the Pokémon community. Other shops in the area either have no singles or haven’t made efforts to host events.”
This incident is not isolated; the OP revealed that another local gaming store in Myrtle Beach had previously experienced a theft where “an entire binder was stolen,”although the perpetrator was eventually caught and arrested.
Given the rarity and high value of certain cards, incidents like this are not uncommon within the Pokémon TCG community.
