Reactions to First Trailer for Minecraft Movie: Terrible or Just Not What Fans Expected?

After much anticipation, the first trailer for the highly-anticipated Minecraft movie has finally been released – however, it has received widespread criticism from disappointed fans.

In 2025, moviegoers can expect the world of Minecraft to expand with the release of a new film featuring Jack Black and Jason Momoa.

Despite facing leaks that revealed Black as the actor playing Steve in July 2024, the first official trailer for A Minecraft Movie has been released. However, there have been some players who have expressed their disappointment with the final product.

One fan posted on X/Twitter, expressing genuine surprise at how terrible the outcome looked, especially with such low expectations already set.

One person remarked, “It appears to be a photoshopped animation of ‘Minecraft if it were real’.”

A third observer commented, “Honestly, I can’t understand why anyone would think creating a live action version of this was a good idea.”

Despite limited information about the movie’s plot, the teaser trailer highlights Black, Momoa, and their fellow crew members (Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen) as they confront piglins, creepers, and a brightly-colored sheep.

Ever since its release in 2011, the Minecraft video game by Mojang Studios has gained immense popularity, leading to the production of a Minecraft Movie. With an astounding 300 million copies sold and a staggering 140 million monthly players, it has earned the title of the best-selling video game of all time.

At the time of this writing, it has only been revealed that Black will be portraying Steve, the most iconic character in the game. The roles of the other cast members have not yet been disclosed.

Despite concerns from some Minecraft fans that the movie may suffer the same fate as other video game adaptations such as Borderlands and Uncharted, there are those who remain optimistic about its potential for surprise success.

One fan commented, “This may look bad, but it could actually be good,”while another fan stated, “Even though it looks terrible, we’ll still be tuning in.”

A Minecraft movie is scheduled to debut on April 4, 2025. In the meantime, be sure to browse guides featuring the top movies of 2024 thus far, as well as all the films available for streaming in September.
