Real-Life Professor Proton’s Death Leaves Young Sheldon Fans in Tears

After the passing of Bob Newhart, newer fans have been honoring the beloved actor, known for his roles as Professor Proton in both Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory.

As a devoted follower of Sheldon Cooper, you are likely aware that his passion for a scientific television program hosted by Professor Proton played a significant role in his academic pursuits. In Young Sheldon, the brilliant Cooper avidly tunes in to the show, while his older self continues to be greatly impacted by its legacy.

Newhart’s final role was in nine episodes between both shows. Known as Arthur Jeffries, he portrayed Professor Proton and made his first appearance on The Big Bang Theory in Season 6 when he was hired by Leonard for a party. Sadly, Proton’s character passed away in Season 10.

It can be confidently stated that fans of Young Sheldon quickly took notice and expressed their disappointment on various social media platforms. One individual on Reddit shared, “Rest in peace Professor Proton…you will be remembered,”with another agreeing, “Professor Proton, may you rest in peace Bob. You were truly a comedic legend.”

A third person chimed in, stating that Sheldon would be absolutely devastated. Rest in peace.

Additionally, the cast of both TBBT and Young Sheldon have also shared heartfelt tributes, demonstrating that it’s not just the fans who are feeling emotional.

According to People Magazine, Iain Armitage, the actor portraying Young Sheldon, expressed his admiration for Bob Newhart’s character, Professor Proton, and his own career as an actor. He also stated that Newhart’s presence will be deeply missed.

Mayim Bialik, who had a cameo role in the Young Sheldon finale, expressed her excitement, stating, “Working alongside him on TBBT was truly a dream come true.”

“Bob was a natural professional, always composed and humorous, and extremely easy to approach. Collaborating with him was like being in the presence of a genuine comedy icon – a rarity in today’s time. His absence will be deeply felt.”

In addition, Newhart gained recognition for his role in the CBS series The Bob Newhart Show, which aired from 1972 to 1978, as well as his appearances in Elf and Legally Blonde 2.
