Reasons Behind Hyeri Losing the “Panpyrin Girl” Outfit to Go Min-si

Reasons Behind Hyeri Losing the “Panpyrin Girl” Outfit to Go Min-si

Hyeri’s Advertising Journey: A Shift in the Spotlight

In the fast-paced realm of advertising, a tenure exceeding four years is remarkable, yet Hyeri has fallen prey to what some label the “three-year curse.” Recently, she found herself replaced as the face of Dong-A Pharmaceutical’s Panpyrin Q.

The Rise of a New Face

In December 2021, Hyeri was welcomed as the new ambassador for Panpyrin Q, stepping into the shoes of Park Bo-young. With her trademark polka-dot scarf and a cheerful message urging viewers to “Stay warm and healthy,” she captured considerable attention. However, her reign was short-lived, as she transferred her role to Go Min-si last November. Despite her sustained popularity, particularly following the buzz around the “Transit Love” controversy, the question arises: why was Hyeri unable to renew her contract?

Factors Influencing the Change

Industry insights reveal that several components led to Hyeri’s departure from her role. An advertising executive noted on January 10, “While both actresses possess charm, the success of their projects, social media mentions, and overall public engagement appear to be the deciding factors.” Hyeri’s involvement in various projects, such as the drama “May I Help You?” , the variety show “HMLYCP,” and the film “Victory,” did not lead to the desired level of success. The MBC and ENA broadcasts garnered disappointing ratings of 4.0% and 0.5%, respectively, with limited buzz surrounding their release. Despite extensive efforts in promoting “Victory” with events several weeks post-launch, the film managed to attract only 500,000 viewers.

Go Min-si’s Ascendancy

Conversely, Go Min-si enjoyed a highly successful period during the same timeframe. Although her roles were minor, her performance in director Park Chan-wook’s “Decision to Leave” and her lead in the summer blockbuster “Smugglers” —which drew an impressive 5.14 million viewers—significantly raised her profile. Furthermore, her notable performances in Netflix’s “Sweet Home” Seasons 2 and 3 and the eight-episode series “The Frog” have showcased her impressive acting range and captivating presence.

Variety Show Dynamics

The competition extended into variety shows, where Hyeri participated in Netflix’s “Agents of Mystery” with Lee Yong-jin and Karina in June. However, this endeavor was outshined by Go Min-si’s engaging role in tvN’s “Jinny’s Kitchen 2.” Go Min-si’s depiction of a diligent and cheerful “golden intern”resonated with audiences, greatly enhancing her popularity.

Insights from Industry Experts

A seasoned industry manager commented, “Go Min-si’s breakthrough occurred with Ryoo Seung-wan’s ‘Smugglers,’ and her status as a role model for Generation MZ was solidified through ‘Jinny’s Kitchen 2.’ Collaboration with established actors in variety shows also worked in her favor.” A casting director familiar with Go Min-si added, “Her approachable and genuine personality is her strongest attribute. Observational reality shows have highlighted this, contributing to her growing success.”
