Reasons For The Humble Achievements of Three BTS Members’ Recent Solo Releases

In December 2023, members of BTS, including RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, officially began their mandatory military service, pausing the group’s activities. However, in the first five months of 2024, each member of BTS released solo songs.

In December 2023, Jimin started off with “Close Than This,”a meaningful present for fans. Following that, V released his own English single “FRI(END)S”in early 2024. V went above and beyond by organizing a stunning concept photo shoot with W Korea and recording a live performance video for the song beforehand.

Next in line was j-hope, who dropped his special mini-album “Hope On The Street Vol.1″and the music video for “Neuron”on March 29. This release coincided with a documentary chronicling his transition from a street dancer to an idol. The EP was meticulously crafted, featuring a musical storyline that struck a chord with fans. Additionally, j-hope collaborated with numerous renowned artists in the Korean music scene.

Recently, RM, leader of BTS, launched his second solo album titled “Wrong Place, Right Person,”amidst ongoing conflicts within HYBE. Along with the album’s release on May 24, RM also unveiled five music videos.

On May 10, RM released the music video for “Come back to me,” which starred a talented ensemble of actors and was directed by Lee Sung Jin, renowned for the successful Netflix series “Beef.”

Despite BTS’s immense popularity and loyal fan base worldwide, V, j-hope, and RM’s individual releases have not performed as well on domestic music charts.

Despite their initial debut, their songs did not perform well and many did not even make it to the top 50 on platforms such as MelOn. Additionally, their songs experienced a rapid decline in chart rankings after the initial excitement.

Despite BTS’s global success and impressive achievements on platforms like Spotify and YouTube, their individual releases have not garnered the same amount of recognition within their home country.

It is believed by fans that the reason behind the lack of popularity in Korea could be attributed to the musical style not resonating with the public’s preferences. V’s English single and RM’s indie pop track may not have resonated with the Korean audience, while j-hope’s unique style may have a more targeted fan base.

Despite the reasons, it is believed by fans that the subdued achievements of BTS members’ solo projects could be attributed to a lack of support from their fans, ARMY, and the abundance of music releases.
