Despite its poor rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the biopic Reagan was still able to generate significant revenue at the box office.
The new film, featuring Dennis Quaid, aimed to inspire Americans with the story of an actor’s journey to becoming the 40th President of the United States, as depicted in Paul Kengor’s 2006 book, The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism.
Regrettably, the movie fell short of expectations, with a current score of only 20% on Rotten Tomatoes for Reagan.
Despite facing harsh criticism from critics, one of whom described it as a “sycophantic biopic that lacks subtlety,”Quaid’s most recent project exceeded expectations and grossed $10.07 million in its first four days at the box office.
This feat resulted in Reagan concluding its initial release ahead of successful box office hits such as Twisters and It Ends With Us, which grossed $9.56 million and $9.5 million, respectively.
Despite potential disapproval of Reagan’s success, it is difficult to deny that the movie did not deserve it, considering the numerous obstacles it overcame in order to be released in 2024.
In 2010, it was announced that Reagan was in production. From 2012 to 2016, several key members of the cast and crew joined the project.
In the end, production for the movie started on September 9, 2020, but was halted only a month later on October 22, 2020, as a result of the worldwide shutdown.
Despite the completion of shooting, the project continued to face challenges. Director Sean McNamara had difficulty securing a distributor for the film until ShowBiz Direct, a small studio, finally acquired it.
Despite facing numerous obstacles, Reagan emerged victorious during its debut weekend and shows no signs of losing momentum in the near future.
