Record Time Sell-Out for MTG’s Hatsune Miku Secret Lair Collection

Record Time Sell-Out for MTG’s Hatsune Miku Secret Lair Collection

The Secret Lair Summer Superdrop from MTG was released for players to purchase on June 24. Although most of the products in the drop are still in stock, the newest Hatsune Miku crossover set quickly sold out within a few hours of its release.

Despite being an unexpected combination, the collaboration between Hatsune Miku and Magic: The Gathering remains highly sought-after. Wizards of the Coast has announced that in 2024, they will be releasing four different sets featuring the Vocaloid superstar, and this multi-set approach has been a major success for the company.

The value of cards from the Hatsune Miku: Sakura Superstar Spring Superdrop set has increased significantly as players have acquired them. This can be attributed to the cards’ distinct features and the fact that Secret Lairs have not been reprinted since their initial release, indicating that these versions will likely continue to rise in worth.

Despite being on sale for less than three hours, the English Foil Secret Lair product of Secret Lair x Hatsune Miku: Digital Sensation was quickly sold out, causing both players and collectors to anticipate a similar increase in value for future Miku sets. This early surge in Digital Sensation sales further supports this expectation.

At the time of this writing, all versions of the Hatsune Miku: Digital Sensation Secret Lair have been sold out in the US Secret Lair store, although other versions of the product were available for a slightly longer period of time.

MTG’s Secret Lair releases have been notoriously challenging to obtain since the switch from the print-to-order model to limited-run, which has not been well-received by fans. While not all sets sell out within hours of being available, it has become common for at least one set per Superdrop to sell out quickly.

Despite this, the only way to secure a highly-anticipated Secret Lair product is to be prepared on the day of its release, which only adds to the FOMO that the limited-run model is relying on.
