Following a question about their Steam Deck from a well-known Reddit user, gamers began to speculate that actor Willem Dafoe might share a passion for gaming.
A question was posed by the Reddit user “Tony_jim”on the Steam Deck subreddit regarding a problem with Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion. The issue involved a sudden change in the game’s aspect ratio and resolution during gameplay.
Unable to change it back, they resorted to posting the question with a picture of their Steam Deck on Reddit.
Upon closer inspection of the screen reflection, it would be difficult not to notice what appeared to be the unmistakable face of Dafoe staring back. While some responses confirmed this observation, others expressed disbelief at the idea of the renowned actor being present in the reflection.
During the conversation, one of the replies playfully remarked, “You could say I’m quite the Steam Deck user myself,”referencing the celebrity’s iconic line from the 2002 film Spider-Man, where they portrayed Norman Osborn/Green Goblin.
Although originally shared in January 2024, the question of Dafoe’s gaming habits was recently reignited by the Shinra Archaeology Department on X. Despite speculation that he may be the user Tony_jim, the actor has not confirmed his identity, leaving the question unanswered.
The responses to the post about X suggested that Dafoe’s potential admiration for Final Fantasy could be the explanation for the abundance of Final Fantasy gifs featuring his face as a replacement.
The creator of the popular Final Fantasy Willem Dafoe gifs, which showcase the actor’s face in place of characters like Yuffie, Sephiroth, and Yuna, remains a mystery.
Despite skepticism from some respondents, others have fully embraced the idea, with one commenting, “I hope Dafoe really does have a deck with an adorable chicken-shaped handle.”
Despite the possibility that Tony_jim could have manipulated the celebrity’s face onto the Steam Deck for attention, fans remain optimistic that Willem Dafoe is a fan of Final Fantasy.
