In a performance, Rei disclosed her feelings towards each member and openly admitted that she found this particular individual to be the most beautiful among the group.
On May 10, the official YouTube channel of “JohnMaat”uploaded Episode 7 of the web show “XYOB,”which was hosted by iconic K-pop idols Joon Park and Brian.
On this particular day, the only guest to appear was IVE Rei, a Japanese K-pop idol, who discussed her fellow group members and her successful career as one of the most popular acts in the K-pop industry currently.
At that moment, Brian inquired Rei:
“Can you tell us what each IVE member means to you?”
Next, Rei gestured towards the life-size standees of the members standing behind her and stated:
“I’ll start with Leeseo. To me, Leeseo is like a daughter. I’ve seen her grow up so I feel like a parent. She’s going through puberty. ‘You can’t do that.’ I tell her that often.”
Rei considers Jang Wonyoung to be her “idol,”even though they are on the same team. She admires Jang Wonyoung’s cool stage presence and sees her as a role model.
When it was Yujin’s turn, Rei admitted that her initial perception of her was that she was a “frightening”leader. However, as they got to know each other, Rei discovered that this was not the case. Yujin was actually quite chatty and had her own worries, always putting the team’s well-being first.
During the ongoing conversation, Joon Park directed a question towards Rei, saying:
“Who do you think is the prettiest among those five, Rei?”
She didn’t hesitate much before choosing Liz and then explained:
“She’s from Jeju Island. Back when I was in middle school, I had to go to Japan often for school (amid training in Korea). One day, when I came back, Liz was just there. She’s a new member. I fell in love at first sight.
She was so pretty when she was a trainee. I was like, how does someone like that exist?”
Upon hearing this, Joon Park commended Rei, stating:
“It was weird that Rei is really pretty, but she doesn’t realize it.”
When Brian inquired about her opinion on her appearance, Rei modestly replied:
“When I wear makeup, I’m like, ‘I got it today. About that much.”
In the same program, Rei, IVE’s sole foreign member, disclosed the group’s strengths and the star responded:
“When there’s an unpleasant situation, I just pretend I don’t understand.”
Nevertheless, there are occasions when she experiences feelings of loneliness as the only non-Korean among the group. This is especially evident when people unintentionally treat her differently because they are unaware of her Japanese background.
