Exciting updates emerged from Jump Festa 2025 regarding the beloved series My Hero Academia. The highly anticipated eighth season is set to premiere in Fall 2025 and will be officially titled My Hero Academia Final Season. As the name implies, this season will delve into the concluding arc of the manga, which wrapped up in August 2023.
The prior season, Season 7, successfully adapted manga chapters from 329 to 398, exploring key storylines such as Star and Stripe, the U.A. Traitor, and portions of the Final War arcs. Consequently, the upcoming season will cover chapters 399 to 431 (Volumes 40-42), ultimately portraying the climactic conclusion of the Final War.
The finale of the manga generated significant discourse among fans, leading many to express their dissatisfaction on social media, even mass-blocking the creator, Kohei Horikoshi. One contentious point was the epilogue, which confirmed a romantic relationship between Deku and Ochaco, much to the dismay of those who had hoped for a different direction for the protagonist. The critical reception of the last chapter had already sparked frustration among fans seeking a more heroic trajectory for Deku.
Although some held onto hope that the newly added epilogue in the 42nd volume—released in December in Japan—would rectify any plot inconsistencies, the additional content failed to satisfy expectations. Furthermore, the established fanbase, which has long favored the Deku and Bakugo dynamic, found the confirmation of a romantic pairing outside of their preferred ship equally disheartening.
New Vigilantes Spin-off Anime Announced
Alongside the announcement of the eighth season, fans were treated to yet another piece of exciting news: a new anime series adapting the Vigilantes spin-off has also been confirmed, set to launch in April 2025. This spin-off will precede the final season, with a trailer now available:
The storyline of this new adaptation takes place five years prior to the events of the main series, following the journey of Koichi Haimawari as the lead character.
Studio Bones, recognized for its work on the primary My Hero Academia anime, will also produce this spin-off. Notably, Kenichi Suzuki, who has an impressive repertoire including acclaimed titles like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (Seasons 1, 2, and 5), will direct the series, marking his debut in the My Hero Academia franchise.
