Resident Evil 9 Release Date

Not yet, no. Capcom has not formally announced Resident Evil 9.

Despite being known as a credible leaker for Resident Evil information, AestheticGamer, also known as Dusk Golem, recently took to Twitter to share their claim that the reveal of Resident Evil 9 is expected to happen soon. According to the leaker, Capcom is targeting a release window of January 2025 for the highly anticipated game.

Do we know the setting of Resident Evil 9?

Up until now, our only source of information has been the rumors provided by Dusk Golem.

According to Dusk Golem, the game could potentially be an open-world horror adventure. While there were initial speculations that the release of an open-world Resident Evil had been postponed, Dusk Golem has recently clarified that the open-world concept applies to both Resident Evil and Resident Evil 9.

According to the insider, Resident Evil 9 will take place in a “fictional rural town on an island located in the Southeast Asia Sea”and will draw inspiration from Singapore. This is not the first time that the Resident Evil franchise has featured island settings, with notable examples including Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Revelations 2, a portion of RE4, and various spin-off media.

Despite Dusk Golem’s reliable history, it is not infallible. Therefore, it is wise to approach this information with caution until Capcom confirms it.

Story Idea

Despite not disclosing any information about the storyline of Resident Evil 9, Capcom has left us with some hints through previous games on the potential direction of the series. The ending of Resident Evil Village featured Chris Redfield and his team witnessing the BSAA taking action against Mother Miranda’s village, utilizing their own bioweapons to counter hers.

Despite being created to destroy it, Chris is appalled by his former employer’s decision to incorporate the very thing they were meant to eliminate into their arsenal. In response, he pilots his helicopter towards their headquarters. It can be assumed that all parties involved survive this encounter, including Rose Winters, who was only a baby on that same helicopter and is now a teenager in the RE Village DLC. She considers Chris, who is still alive, to be a surrogate parent.

Despite the death of her father, Ethan Winters, at the conclusion of Resident Evil Village, his consciousness lives on within the Megamycete. This entity collects the DNA of those it infects, giving them the opportunity to exist within it. With the Megamycete potentially being a key component in various viruses within the Resident Evil universe, this leaves Capcom with endless possibilities to revive any character in the upcoming Resident Evil 9.

The recent release of Resident Evil Village also uncovered a significant detail about the game’s main antagonist, Mother Miranda. It was revealed that she had served as the mentor of Oswell E. Spencer, the mastermind behind The Umbrella Corporation and a key villain in the Resident Evil series. Although Spencer ultimately met his demise at the hands of another villain, Albert Wesker, in Resident Evil 5, this connection between Village and the previous games has potential implications for the future of the franchise.

The remakes of Resident Evil 3 and 4 were successful in creating a more cohesive and interconnected storyline compared to previous installments. As such, it can be anticipated that Resident Evil 9 will incorporate elements from the entire series rather than simply continuing the story of Resident Evil Village.
