Resolving Controller Problems in Neva for PC Users

Neva, the newest release from Nomada Studio—the creators behind GRIS—has made its debut on several platforms, including PC. This emotionally impactful action-adventure game is relatively easy on system requirements, yet the PC version grapples with several issues that could hinder your gaming experience. If you’re encountering difficulties getting your controllers to function properly with Neva, follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the problems.

Resolving Neva Controller Issues

Many controllers fail to work seamlessly at first, as Neva suggests a problem lies with the developers’ default profiles. This is a recognized problem; however, the optimal solution is to utilize Steam Input. This feature bypasses the default profiles, employing the Steam Input layer for all controllers.

  • Ensure that Neva is not currently active
  • Launch Steam and go to your library
  • Right-click on Neva and select Properties
  • Within the Controller tab, choose the Enable Steam Input option listed under Override for Neva

After applying these changes, restart the game, and your controllers should function correctly.

Disconnect Other Controllers

It’s important to connect only one controller while running Neva. Having other devices, such as HOTAS, fight sticks, or steering wheels attached may create conflicts with your Xbox or PlayStation controller.

Verify Detected Controllers

If your controller remains unresponsive even after enabling Steam Input, ensure that Steam recognizes the controllers currently connected. You can check the detected controllers by navigating through the Steam client: select Steam > Settings > Controller:

Fortunately, the developers acknowledge this issue and have assured players that they are diligently working on a fix.

It’s hopeful that a forthcoming patch will enable players to use their Xbox controllers without needing to engage the Steam Input layer. Aside from these controller challenges, Neva offers stunning visuals and should perform well on lower-end systems.
