Response to Marques Brownlee’s Review Backlash

After facing backlash over his Humane AI Pin review, Marques Brownlee has responded and received support from several popular internet personalities.

Marques Brownlee, an American YouTuber, faced backlash when he uploaded his critique of the Humane AI Pin, labeling it as the “most disappointing product”he had ever reviewed.

Despite the numerous negative reviews the product received and the fact that Brownlee’s opinion was shared by many, his video caused a massive backlash that spread rapidly online.

One of the most notable critics of Brownlee was internet personality Daniel Vassallo, who expressed his disapproval on X (formerly Twitter). In his tweet, he stated, “I find it distasteful, almost unethical, to say this when you have 18 million subscribers. It’s hard to explain why, but having such a large audience also means having a greater responsibility.”

“He continued, expressing concern about the potential harm of destroying someone else’s early project. However, Brownlee has since responded and now numerous well-known creators are coming to his aid.”

Brownlee responded, “We have differing opinions on my role.”It was clear that numerous followers of the YouTuber shared this view, highlighting that an “impartial and truthful evaluation”would not necessarily satisfy everyone.

MoistCr1TiKaL utilized the social media platform to express his thoughts, referring to Vassallo’s response as “dogsh**”and praising Brownlee’s review for saving potential buyers from spending their money on a subpar product. He also suggested a hypothetical scenario where all reviewers were obligated to provide only positive reviews.

In a YouTube video, Philip DeFranco came to Brownlee’s defense and called out Vassallo’s tweet as one of the most unintelligent and thoughtless statements he had ever encountered.

DeFranco also noted that Brownlee was not one to constantly criticize products, making his negative reviews stand out as a result.

“DeFranco stated that it is not his responsibility to handle any obstacles or public relations for a company that launched a product at a price of $700 with a recurring fee, especially if the initial version of their product is subpar.”

I can empathize with those who may be sensitive to criticisms, as they often get lumped in with those who are only spreading hateful comments. However, it’s important to recognize that these two things are not interchangeable.
