Amid renewed interest in the Burning Sun scandal, footage of BLACKPINK member Jennie confronting Seungri for falsely claiming that she “touched”him is gaining attention.
In 2019, the Korean entertainment industry was rocked by shocking revelations about Seungri and his inner circle. These men, who were once admired, were exposed as participants in a disturbing group chat where they shared unauthorized videos of women. The public was also outraged by their involvement in prostitution rings, further tarnishing their once positive reputations.
In this timeframe, online users started examining previous events that suggested Seungri’s questionable conduct. Specifically, an occurrence from a BLACKPINK concert in Korea in 2018 was revisited and has gained attention in 2023.
It was rumored that Seungri had spread false information about Jennie. However, during a BLACKPINK concert where Seungri was present, the female idol courageously addressed the rumors. She directly addressed Seungri and stated, “Oppa, I heard that you told people in the background that I touched your shoulder. I want to clarify that I have never done such a thing.”
Seungri, who found himself in an uncomfortable public situation, deflected with a line from Jennie’s song “SOLO.”Rosé then requested he refrain from spoiling anything, to which Seungri explained he couldn’t resist as he was a fan of the song.
The scrutiny continued as several netizens on community forums and social media reexamined an exchange between Seungri and Jisoo that took place during the same concert.
Upon meeting Jisoo, Seungri greeted her and mentioned that it had been a while since they last saw each other. However, before he could continue the conversation, Jisoo interjected with an unrelated statement, thanking him for his kindness during the concert.
Despite Seungri’s attempt to defuse the situation by requesting her silence, Jisoo persisted in her sarcastic remarks. She mockingly exclaimed, “I was genuinely taken aback by your kindness.”
The conversation came to an uncomfortable end as Seungri repeatedly declared, “Jisoo, I love you, I love you.”
The previous exchanges between Seungri and BLACKPINK, which were initially perceived as playful teasing between colleagues from the same label, have now taken on a different meaning in light of BBC’s “Burning Sun”documentary. The public has started to interpret them as a strategic attempt by BLACKPINK to separate themselves from Seungri’s controversial image, using lighthearted jokes and indirect comments to subtly imply their true feelings about the former BIGBANG member without getting involved in any controversy.
