Resurfacing of Ex-SM CEO’s Deleted Remarks in Light of NewJeans and HYBE Dispute

Recently, the internet has been abuzz with escalations involving NewJeans and HYBE following Min Hee-jin’s departure from the agency ADOR.

Notably, NewJeans conducted a livestream urging HYBE to reinstate Min Hee-jin as CEO and expressing concerns about potential ostracism. This incident captured significant attention, especially after BTS’s Jungkook seemingly showed support for NewJeans through a social media post.

Amid these events, previously deleted comments from a former CEO of SM Entertainment have resurfaced.

In 2023, following the exit of founder Lee Soo-man from SM, HYBE aimed to acquire SM by purchasing stakes held by Lee Soo-man. Efforts to thwart this takeover led the then-CEO, Lee Sung-soo, to create videos revealing Lee Soo-man’s alleged wrongdoings while criticizing HYBE in a now-erased video titled “Reasons why SM is against HYBE’s Hostile Takeover.”

This video asserted that HYBE would likely favor its own artists over those from SM, providing superior resources to idols from labels where HYBE has a majority stake.

The resurgence of these claims amid the NewJeans situation has led to viral discussions among netizens reflecting on Lee Sung-soo’s statements.

The future of idol groups from labels acquired by HYBE, including GFRIEND and fromis_9, has also emerged as a topic of interest.
