Respawn Entertainment has launched a mid-season update for Apex Legends that has significantly buffed Valkyrie, who previously ranked as one of the least-selected legends in the game. Following these changes, she is now witnessing a surge in popularity, becoming one of the most picked characters.
Initially, Valkyrie was a formidable force upon her release in 2021, primarily due to her exceptional mobility abilities. However, in 2022, she faced considerable nerfs to her entire kit, causing her pick rate to plummet as other legends gained stronger advantages.
Despite her classification as a Skirmisher, the jetpack-wearing legend excelled at rotation but lacked the firepower necessary to support her skills.
As a result, Valkyrie’s pick rate has skyrocketed by nearly 600%, rising from 1.2% to an impressive 8.2%.
In Season 13, Valkyrie enjoyed a 10.4% pick rate.
Players are positively reacting to Valkyrie’s mini-rework and are achieving notable success with her in Season 22.
The recent enhancements to Valkyrie, specifically the adjustments to her jetpack abilities and her reclassification as a Recon legend, have played a pivotal role in her revitalization within the Apex Legends meta.
The current map rotation, featuring E-District, Olympus, and Kings Canyon, presents steep terrains that Valkyrie can traverse effortlessly thanks to her passive VTOL Jets. This allows players to rotate quickly to new locations or scout their team’s next strategic move.
Furthermore, her Level 3 upgrade now allows her to reveal enemies from greater distances and through walls while skydiving, akin to other Recon abilities, making her a formidable choice in the late game.
All these enhancements, combined with her faster and more potent missiles, have established Valkyrie as a highly sought-after pick in ranked matches. Though her pick rate may stabilize as players explore other legends like Crypto and Vantage as Recon characters, or Pathfinder and Wraith as Skirmishers fulfilling similar roles, Valkyrie’s resurgence is both remarkable and long-awaited.
