Exciting news emerges from the gaming world as we’ve got a glimpse of the new artwork for the eagerly anticipated Final Fantasy x Magic: The Gathering crossover set. This collaboration showcases the iconic characters Cloud Strife and Sephiroth from the legendary Final Fantasy 7 in a unique card game format.
Magic: The Gathering has gained popularity for its crossover events in recent years, collaborating with various well-known franchises like The Lord of the Rings and Fallout. The year 2025 promises to deliver some of the most significant collaborations yet, featuring a dedicated set for Final Fantasy as well as several sets inspired by Marvel Comics.
During The Game Awards 2024, it was announced that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be available on PC starting January 23, 2025. In a celebratory move, the official Magic: The Gathering Twitter/X account revealed new illustrations of Cloud and Sephiroth, tantalizing fans ahead of the release.

New Artwork Features FF7’s Cloud & Sephiroth in Magic: The Gathering
The artistic talents of Magali Villeneuve brought the characters of Cloud and Sephiroth to life in this new Magic: The Gathering artwork. These designs are expected to be featured on their respective Creature cards, allowing players to bring them to the battlefield.
Additionally, this isn’t the first time Sephiroth’s persona has been illustrated for Magic: The Gathering; the initial crossover trailer unveiled artwork by Wangjie Li. It remains to be seen whether these illustrations are alternate arts for the same card or if Sephiroth will feature across several different cards.
Interestingly, Li’s interpretation of Sephiroth depicts him executing his infamous Hell’s Gate attack. This dramatic pose suggests he might be represented on an Instant or Sorcery card, rather than strictly as a Creature.
As anticipation builds, fans are burning with curiosity about the power levels of these cards. A popular theory is whether they will act as Commanders in themed Final Fantasy Commander Decks, potentially with Cloud leading the heroes and Sephiroth the villains.
Regardless of the gameplay mechanics, the newly revealed artwork truly captures the essence of Cloud and Sephiroth, marking them as significant figures in gaming history. However, fans will have to wait until June 13, 2025, for the official launch of the Final Fantasy crossover set.
