Revenant Act 3 Nerfs Destiny 2’s Most Overpowered Exotic

Bungie has announced its strategy to address the overwhelming dominance of the Graviton Lance in Destiny 2 with the upcoming Revenant Act 3 update. In the realm of looter shooters, it is uncommon for a particular weapon to overshadow others by becoming the go-to choice for both PvE and PvP scenarios. However, instances where a weapon takes center stage do occur, prompting developers to make necessary adjustments.

The Graviton Lance is one such weapon that has attained meta-dominance, leading Bungie to intervene. Although the adjustments will be minimal, with a single key change, the impact is expected to be significant. Let’s break down the details of this modification.

What Changes Are Being Made to Graviton Lance?

With the launch of Revenant Act 3 on January 7, the Graviton Lance’s rounds per minute (RPM) will revert from 324 back to its initial rate of 300.

In a recent blog post published on December 12, Bungie explained their reasoning behind this decision. “One option we considered was bringing down [Graviton Lance’s] stats to be closer to other Heavy Burst Pulse Rifles, but that felt like too much of a departure from the spirit of the weapon,” the studio stated. This indicates a nuanced approach that balances gameplay integrity with weapon uniqueness.

With this adjustment, Bungie anticipates a “small DPS nerf”for the weapon in PvE content, while in PvP settings, its performance is expected to align closely with how it functioned prior to Episode 2. Thus, players can rest assured that their beloved Graviton won’t become ineffective entirely.

Despite this nerf, the Graviton Lance remains a formidable primary weapon; its effectiveness was notable even before the recent RPM adjustment. This change is primarily designed to encourage Guardians to explore various strategies and weapon combinations in their Energy slot, promoting a more diverse gameplay experience.

If you’re considering alternatives following the Graviton Lance’s adjustments, there are other viable Pulse Rifles in the game that have returned in Revenant, equipped with updated perk pools. These weapons are certainly worth investing time in to enhance your loadout.
