In the world of Destiny 2, Raid Exotics are among the rarest items players can acquire, yet their effectiveness can be inconsistent. Many of these exotic pieces tend to serve very specific, niche purposes, often leaving them underutilized. However, with Bungie’s regular updates to the game, new synergies often emerge that change the gameplay landscape significantly.
One example is the Touch of Malice, an exotic weapon that has seen little attention since its return from the original Destiny in conjunction with the King’s Fall raid. Historically deemed ineffective due to its self-damaging mechanics, the weapon has recently gained recognition as one of the top DPS (damage per second) primary weapons for Warlocks. This renewed interest is largely attributed to the introduction of Revenant’s Artifact Mods, which enhance its capabilities.
According to statistics from Destiny Tracker, Touch of Malice boasts a dismal usage rate of under 0.1% across all PvE activities. However, many believe this figure is due for a significant increase, and here’s why.
Analyzing the Touch of Malice Prismatic Build
Touch of Malice has remarkable synergies with Revenant’s Artifact Mods.
In the current meta following The Final Shape expansion, the Prismatic build is the optimal choice. Unlike traditional Warlock builds that often blend Light and Darkness subclasses, the Solipsism exotic armor provides the ideal support for this setup over Getaway Artist.
To maximize your effectiveness, seek out armor pieces that feature the Spirit of the Claw and Spirit of the Necrotic perks. These perks enhance your Arcane Needle ability by allowing an additional melee charge and enabling widespread poison effects among foes, respectively.
Touch of Malice synergizes with this build, given its classification as a Weapon of Sorrow, which naturally inflicts poison through the blight projectile’s alt-fire, obtained via the Charged with Blight perk. This feature also serves as an effective means of inflicting Blind status on enemies.
The Revenant’s Arc Compounding Artifact Mod magnifies all sources of Arc damage. Therefore, when paired with Touch of Malice, any high-fire-rate Arc weapon is capable of dismantling blinded enemies, especially when combined with Arc and Kinetic Weapon Surge for improved damage output.
While the self-damage inherent in Touch of Malice might seem daunting, this drawback can be effectively mitigated through the use of Healing Rifts, grenades, and abilities like Devour, along with the weapon’s own healing provided through rapid final blows.
