Episode summary
The episode commenced with Regulus Corneas, the Sin Archbishop of Greed, provocatively asking Emilia if she was a virgin. Despite his inappropriate inquiry, he insisted on receiving an answer, leaving Emilia baffled by the term. This sparked Regulus’ curiosity, leading him to wonder about her ‘virgin soul’.
Following this introduction, Regulus proclaimed himself as her husband and revealed he planned to make her his 79th spouse, before summoning a servant identified as Number 184 to attend to Emilia’s attire. Regulus departed, leaving behind the servant who introduced herself as Regulus’ 184th wife.
As the narrative progressed, Emilia contended with her claim as a wife, but Number 184 dismissed her perspective, equating Regulus to an evil monarch and labeling him the “Little King.”The scene then shifted to Subaru, engaged in a fierce battle against Roy Alphard, the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony.
Julius interjected, reminding Subaru of their true mission and imploring him to ignore Roy’s provocations. This led Julius to join the fray while Subaru and Crusch Karsten infiltrated the governmental headquarters. They confronted Capella Emerada Lugunica once again, seemingly overpowering her and liberating a hostage child.
However, the situation intensified as Subaru opened a door to a space filled with massive flies. Upon retreating from the room, he discovered the hostage was actually Capella in disguise. Enraged, Subaru attacked her using a rock and his whip, but she swiftly regenerated. Capella then revealed her true form as a dragon assuming human shape, her body sprouting various draconic appendages.
Subaru was taken aback by this revelation, as Capella identified herself as the Sin Archbishop of Lust, revealing her enigmatic ability to take on any feminine appearance. She detailed the origin of the dragon and the flies, indicating they were beings she had transformed, which Subaru found utterly abhorrent.
Capella relished her power, stating her grotesque creations were too vile to inspire affection. When Subaru urged her to kill him, she declined, expressing her desire for people to continue living and loving her as long as possible. She accused Subaru of harboring lustful feelings for Crusch, which he vehemently denied. This led to a monologue about misinterpreting carnal urges as love.
Capella then morphed into Emilia, questioning whether Subaru would still love her in her fly form, making a mockery of their emotional connection. Her transformation escalated, as a lion’s head emerged from her arm, and she viciously ripped Subaru’s leg off, leaving him teetering on the edge of death, alongside Crusch.
Subsequently, Capella approached Crusch, drenching her face in blood to observe her transformation, causing Crusch to cry out in agony. Capella explained that the blood she had used was her own dragon blood, repeating the gruesome act on Subaru. Meanwhile, the dragon they had previously battled reappeared, initiating focus on Garfiel Tinsel, Wilhelm van Astrea, and Ricardo Welkin’s struggle against the two Witch Cultists.
However, their battle was interrupted by a tremendous explosion emanating from Subaru and Crusch’s location. The plot then pivoted to Anastasia Hoshin and Kiritaka Muse, who learned that the remaining members of the Council of Ten were presumably dead and unreachable. The scene intensified as Sirius Romanée-Conti emerged, targeting them until Tivey and Hetaro Pearlbaton intervened.
Re:ZERO season 3 episode 5 showcased Tivey and Hetaro buying precious time for Anastasia to escape, while Kiritaka resolved to remain behind with his forces, hinting at a self-sacrificial intent. The narrative returned to Reinhard van Astrea and his father Heinkel, who was holding Felt captive. A beetle landing on Felt’s face startled her, momentarily distracting Reinhard long enough for him to seize control of his father.
Following this, he and Felt successfully restrained Heinkel, revealing that Otto Suwen had aided them using his ability to communicate with insects. Otto recounted his encounter with Lye Batenkaitos, sparking Felt’s demand for Reinhard to lend his full strength to Subaru. At this point, Rachins’ other two companions arrived, also aligned with Felt, ensuring her safety while assisting in capturing Heinkel as Reinhard moved to aid Subaru.
The episode culminated with the city of Priestella facing a catastrophic flood as the dragon ascended with an unconscious Subaru and Crusch ensnared in its clutches. Ultimately, the focus returned to Emilia, who was confronted with the aftermath of the city’s devastation. The episode concluded with Capella instructing for the Tome of Wisdom, the artificial spirit, and Emilia to be delivered to her.
