Rian Johnson’s Top Mystery Film Now Streaming on Prime Video

Right now, there is a lot of buzz surrounding Knives Out, but Rian Johnson’s top mystery film has just arrived on Amazon Prime Video and it’s a timeless classic.

Prior to the rise of Benoit Blanc and affluent homicide victims, Rian Johnson was already introducing the whodunnit genre to the world of high school. His first feature film, Brick, is a teenage murder mystery presented in a tantalizingly enigmatic neo-noir fashion.

Johnson’s debut feature film, Brick, was released in 2005 and went on to achieve cult classic status after winning the Special Jury Prize for Originality of Vision at Sundance that same year. Despite being overshadowed by Johnson’s later works such as Star Wars and Knives Out, Brick can now be easily accessed through streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

The detective drama features Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the role of Brendan, a jaded and isolated teenager who receives a frantic and enigmatic phone call from his former girlfriend, Emily. Upon discovering her lifeless body, he becomes entangled in the perplexing puzzle of her demise, with only cryptic utterances as his guide.

If Bugsy Malone was a part of your childhood, Brick will take you to a similar world, but with fewer musical sequences and a greater focus on heroin. However, the unsettling sight of teenagers portraying typical film noir personalities adds to the tension of the mystery and will leave you guessing until the very end.

Nowadays, the film boasts a score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, along with an impressive Audience Score of 86%. On various social media platforms, viewers are expressing their admiration for Brick, declaring it as Johnson’s greatest film.

“According to one user on X, Brick is the finest film by Rian Johnson. Another user on X also stated that they were deeply impacted by the movie and will never forget the experience of walking out of the theater.”

“Another user pointed out that if this idea had not gained a following, we would not have been introduced to Benoit Blanc.”
