Richard Gadd’s first show after Baby Reindeer revealed — but Netflix fans won’t be happy

Despite its runaway success on Netflix, fans may not be pleased with the direction of Richard Gadd’s next show.

Ever since the release of Baby Reindeer, those with a Netflix subscription haven’t been able to stop discussing it. However, news about Richard Gadd’s next show, his first since the limited series, has been announced and it will not be accessible on the streaming platform.

The UK channel BBC has revealed that it has greenlit a new six-part series from Gadd, tentatively titled Lions. The series will be shown on BBC One and can also be streamed on BBC iPlayer, although a release date has not yet been announced.

The synopsis details the arrival of Ruben, Niall’s estranged “brother,”at his wedding, which sparks a violent outburst that takes us on a journey through their past. Spanning four decades, from the 1980s to the present, this ambitious series will explore the ups and downs of their relationship. It will delve into their teenage meeting, their falling out as adults, and all the memorable moments in between – the good, the bad, the terrible, the funny, the angry, and the challenging.

Although Lions will not have a real-life plot like Baby Reindeer, it is still uncertain if Gadd will both star in and create the series. Additionally, Gadd will serve as executive producer while Alexandra Brodski will direct.

Gadd expressed his excitement about collaborating with the BBC, stating, “Being part of such a renowned broadcaster known for delivering top-notch comedy and drama (and comedy-drama, of course) is truly a dream come true. Although I anticipate challenges such as tight writing deadlines and filming in rainy conditions on the streets of Glasgow, I am just joking about any potential dream-wearing-off.”

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work on this project, and I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Tally, Morven, and Gaynor for their unwavering support. I am also indebted to the exceptional Lindsay Salt, who has been my strongest advocate and to whom I will always be thankful.”

The executives at BBC have praised Lions as being “truly unique”and featuring “a dynamic partnership that has not been portrayed before.”

Despite facing backlash, Baby Reindeer continues to hold the top spot on the Netflix Top 10 chart worldwide. In an interview with TimeOut, Richard Gadd, the creator of the limited series, acknowledged that he expected some criticism. However, Fiona Harvey, who denies being the inspiration for one of the characters, Martha (Jessica Gunning), has announced her plans to sue Netflix.
