RIIZE’s Revamped Lightstick Draws Mixed Reviews for Being Too Simple

On March 5, RIIZE unveiled their first lightstick, which resembled a pointing hand with features similar to a bong. While some fans were delighted to receive the lightstick, others were critical of its design.

Upon its release, the hand lightstick received attention from both netizens and fans for its striking resemblance to Epik High’s Park Kyu-bong (a play on words for ‘f**k you’), known for showcasing a middle finger gesture. Despite its vulgar and humorous appeal, the lightstick has gained popularity among the K-pop community.

The controversy surrounding the pointing hand also stemmed from its potential to be interpreted as an insult in other countries. In light of this concern, fans raised the issue with SM Entertainment’s “KWANGYA 119″in hopes of resolving the issue and ultimately altering its design.

On April 30, RIIZE finally revealed their updated lightstick on their official social media accounts. The photo shared on platform X (Twitter) showcased the group’s classic sphere design with their name logo and a stage light-inspired motif, giving it a retro feel.

Despite the mixed reactions, many expressed that the design of the lightstick felt rushed.

On one hand, fans believed it was a step down from its initial design. This caused some BRIIZEs to criticize other fans for “bullying”the original design, ultimately resulting in its removal and replacement.

Some of the fans were pleased with the updated layout, while others took the opportunity to create memes featuring the revised lightstick. See their posts below:
