Attention arachnophobes: brace yourselves as the initial teaser for the second season of Rings of Power showcases a quick glimpse of some eerie creatures, potentially hinting at the reappearance of a beloved monster from the Lord of the Rings franchise.
At the end of the first season of Rings of Power, Middle-earth was in disarray. Galadriel had been deceived by Halbrand, who claimed to be the king of the Southlands, but was actually Sauron in disguise.
In the debut trailer for Season 2 of Rings of Power at Comic-Con, the creation of the iconic rings is fraught with tension. Galadriel issues a warning that Sauron views himself as the ruler of all Middle-earth.
“He aims to control not just through military victory, but by manipulating the thoughts of every citizen to align with his own. This requires not an army, but a collection of rings.”
The preview provides us with a general summary of the upcoming season, including Sauron’s return in the form of Annatar, the Lord of Gifts, and his attempt to win the favor of the Elves and Celebrimbor. Elrond will advocate for the destruction of the rings, while Nori the Harfoot will embark on an adventure with a mysterious companion (hint: Gandalf).
Interestingly, we catch a fleeting sight of Isildur, Elendil’s son who was believed to be deceased in the previous season. As expected, he is still living… but his condition is far from good.
Upon catching a glimpse of him, we witness his fierce sword fighting skills as he slashes away at spiders. Fans of the Lord of the Rings films may wonder: will Shelob make another appearance?
In Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, viewers may recall Shelob when Gollum guides Frodo and Sam into her lair in the catacombs near Cirith Ungol. While Bilbo and his companions encounter some spiders in The Desolation of Smaug, Shelob does not make an appearance.
In case you are unaware, Shelob is a colossal spider and the biggest descendant of Ungoliant. It is certain that she was present during the Second Age and was most likely living in the Mountains of Shadow.
It is also said that she consumed her own children, which could explain the figures that Isildur is seen battling against in the trailer.
The highly anticipated second season of Rings of Power will be airing on August 29. In the meantime, you can stay entertained by checking out other TV shows currently streaming and stay updated on all the exciting announcements from San Diego Comic-Con 2024.
