Although unconfirmed, it seems very likely that you will be able to romance in Dragon’s Dogma 2. In the first game, you could increase your affinity with an NPC and make them your “Chosen One”.

The “Chosen One”system functioned as an invisible stat in Dragon’s Dogma. Indeed, as you established affinities with NPCs with whom you had interacted a lot, or for whom you had completed quests, sometimes leading to hilarious results. One possibility was accidentally falling in love with a mischievous court jester, without you knowing it until a crucial moment in the game, where they are kidnapped in dramatic fashion.

In an interview with IGN, game director Hideaki Itsuno talked about the more complex affinity systems. Essentially, group dynamics will emerge. Indeed, NPCs will have their own relationships meaning that your actions can affect your standing with those close to others. Itsuno said, “As for affinity, it only existed between the player and NPCs in the previous game, but this game also features affinity and relationships between NPCs. For example, if you find a group of friends, hitting one will cause the other to get angry with you. Or if you do something nice for a child, the parents will be able to thank you and appreciate you more.”

Also, it seems like you might find yourself involved in love triangles. Although Itsuno has ruled out love, establishing deeper connections remains an option. He said: “I don’t know if I’d call it love, but if you become friends with characters in the game, there are internal parameters to determine that sort of thing. A character who gets close to you might come to your house to play, but if he meets another character there who has done the same thing, a fight could break out.”
