Discord Introduces ‘Orbs’ Currency for Purchasing Nitro Subscriptions

Discord has officially launched its innovative Orbs feature across the platform, offering users an exciting new mechanism to earn perks, including access to Nitro, simply by completing various in-app Quests.

This feature, which was previously limited to testing phases, is now available to all users worldwide. Orbs serve as a reward currency linked to Discord’s expanding Quest system, allowing users to earn these rewards by engaging in tasks such as trying out partnered games, attending events, or exploring new platform features.

Once users accumulate Orbs, they can redeem them in the Rewards Shop for a variety of offerings, with three-day Nitro subscriptions being the flagship item. By subscribing to Nitro, users unlock an array of premium features including high-definition streaming, custom emojis, increased upload limits, and additional server boosts.

How to Earn Orbs and Redeem Rewards

To begin earning Orbs, users should navigate to the Quests tab located in the Discovery menu at the bottom of their server list. This section now features a dynamic selection of available tasks that rotate regularly.

The Quests can vary greatly in both length and nature. Some may require users to play Discord-integrated games, while others may ask them to explore built-in functions or view a video game trailer.

Importantly, Orbs cannot be bought with real money, as Discord has made a concerted effort to emphasize that this reward system is designed to enhance user engagement rather than promote spending. This initiative aligns with the company’s broader strategy to make the app more rewarding for its vast global user base.

In addition to the launch of Orbs, Discord recently announced a significant change that will benefit larger communities. As noted in their monthly update blog earlier this July, the maximum membership cap for servers has been increased from 500, 000 to a staggering 2.5 million, enabling even more users to join and participate in popular communities.
