A pioneering educational initiative has emerged in Japan: the first-ever online cram school where every instructor is an active VTuber. This innovative platform, named Wish High, was unveiled by Luminaris, a Tokyo-based tutoring company, on February 17, as reported by ITmedia News.
Wish High offers a distinctive learning experience by employing currently active VTubers to teach essential subjects including mathematics, English, physics, chemistry, classical Japanese, world history, Japanese history, and geography. Students can participate in live, interactive online lessons, with a monthly subscription fee of ¥9, 900, approximately equivalent to $65 USD per course.
Engaging Learning with VTuber Instructors
While primarily targeting high school students, this platform is also open to middle school and adult learners. The concept aims to address a pressing concern in the realm of digital education, where many students find it challenging to remain engaged during conventional video lessons.
“With the rise of online education, we have noticed a significant issue: students often struggle to keep up with video lessons and risk falling behind without achieving a deep understanding of the material, ” a representative from Luminaris stated.
To combat the engagement problem, the company has integrated the flexibility of online learning with the dynamic and immersive approach characteristic of VTuber instruction.“Our goal is to create a learning environment that keeps students motivated and eager to continue their education, ” they added.

To mark its launch, several VTuber instructors have planned interactive YouTube livestreams beginning on February 19, where they will introduce themselves and elaborate on their respective courses.
This innovative use of VTuber teachers reflects a broader trend of merging the real and digital worlds for educational purposes. In a related development from last year, a VTuber agency initiated a “rental granny” service designed to support both young and elderly individuals.
