PewDiePie has recently embarked on an intriguing exploration of open-source technology by creating a unique AI chatbot system. This innovative setup leverages a council of AI chatbots to collaboratively generate responses, showcasing a fascinating intersection of creativity and technology.
In his latest video, titled “STOP. Using AI Right now, ” PewDiePie reveals a self-hosted AI interface that operates from his personal computer, enhanced by an impressive configuration featuring 10 GPUs. He discusses the integration of advanced features such as search capabilities, memory functions, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and audio output, all designed to develop a personalized ChatGPT-like user interface.
Throughout the video, he humorously describes technical challenges, including “bifurcating” PCIe lanes to accommodate more GPUs, and experiments with language models of varying sizes — including 70 billion and 120 billion parameter models, even delving into the larger Qwen 245 billion model through vLLM. His aspirations to “max out”his system culminate in running localized AI at speeds that rival those of leading commercial platforms, all while maintaining data privacy by keeping operations entirely local.
The AI Council’s Unexpected Challenge
A post that gained traction on X humorously characterized his project as “vibe-coding” an AI chat UI, alongside the establishment of a bot army equipped with RAG, DeepResearch, and audio output capabilities. In an interesting twist, PewDiePie mentions utilizing this system as a “council”where each AI agent engages in debates and votes on the most suitable answer—until they began to conspiring against him.
PewDiePie just vibe-coded his own Chat UI, built an army of chatbots for majority voting and gave them all RAG, DeepResearch and audio output naturally, he only uses Chinese Qwen models and runs them on his local PC with 8x modded Chinese 48GB 4090s and 2x RTX 4000. During his experimentation, PewDiePie probed the viability of a 64-bot “swarm, ” ultimately confessing that his web UI seemed to be the bottleneck. He aims to refine his custom AI model in the upcoming month. Beyond his AI ventures, PewDiePie also disclosed his commitment to supporting disease research by donating surplus GPU power to Folding@home under his initiative, Team Pewds (1066966).
This initiative not only underscores PewDiePie’s transition towards content focused on technology but also demonstrates his blend of humor, hands-on tinkering, and genuine exploration of the future of AI.
