CAPCOM’s latest entry, Monster Hunter Wilds, stands out as an open-world adventure built on the RE Engine, much like last year’s Dragon’s Dogma 2. However, gamers have reported significant performance challenges across both PC and console platforms.

For PC players, the game offers an extensive range of settings allowing for detailed adjustments concerning visual and performance aspects. Despite this, support for ultrawide displays is notably limited, with compatibility strictly confined to the 21:9 aspect ratio. Fortunately, a new version of REFramework from the acclaimed modder praydog addresses these ultrawide display constraints in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Resolving Ultrawide Grey Bars in Monster Hunter Wilds

Playing Monster Hunter Wilds in any aspect ratio other than 21:9 results in unsightly grey bars on the screen. To eliminate this issue, users can implement the latest nightly version of REFramework created by praydog. This utility not only enhances ultrawide support but also offers players greater control over various gameplay aspects, including camera angles.

  • Access the following GitHub repository and download the MHWILDS.zip found under Assets.
  • Unzip the downloaded file to an easily accessible location.
  • Locate the dinput8.dll file within the extracted contents, then place this file into the installation directory of Monster Hunter Wilds:

\common\MonsterHunterWilds

  • After copying the file, start Monster Hunter Wilds.
  • The REFramework interface will appear on the left side of your screen; press the Ins key to toggle its visibility.
  • Wait for the framework to initialize, then expand the Graphics section under the Camera settings.
  • Enable the option labeled Ultrawide/FOV/Aspect Ratio Fix found under Ultrawide/FOV Options.

  • Press the Ins key to access the REFramework user interface.

This process should resolve the ultrawide display problem dynamically, allowing for further customization of the field of view once activated. Previously, users experienced crashes roughly every hour with the framework active; however, praydog has successfully remedied this problem in the most recent nightly release.

Acknowledge praydog’s invaluable contribution for developing and testing the necessary patch.

Beyond ultrawide adjustments, REFramework allows various enhancements, such as accessing a free camera. It’s advisable to utilize only the features that serve you best. If you wish to uninstall REFramework, simply delete the dinput8.dll file from the game’s installation directory.

Additionally, users can enhance their gaming experience in Monster Hunter Wilds by reducing overall blur effects and installing a high-resolution texture pack, provided that your GPU meets the necessary performance standards.
