A Maryland-based software engineer has achieved a remarkable feat by turning a limited-edition Dunkin’ Donut box into a functioning handheld gaming console. This innovative transformation has captured public attention, demonstrating the intersection of creativity, technology, and nostalgia.

In an interview with People, 25-year-old Brianna, known online as Cocoa’s Aesthetic, shared how she repurposed Dunkin’s “I Dough” ring box, an item she received from her mother who enjoys collecting unique promotional merchandise. The box’s premium feel and elegant gold lettering inspired her to keep it instead of discarding it.

From Concept to Creation: A Weekend of Innovation

Rather than letting the box go to waste, Brianna opted to create her own game. Over a brisk weekend, she constructed “Latte Mania, ”a game utilizing an Arduino ESP32 microcontroller alongside a small OLED screen and two buttons. Equipped with a power drill and her coding skills, she embarked on a thrilling project filled with coffee-inspired mini-games that emulate the experience of managing a coffee shop.

In her words, “I started Friday morning… and I ended Sunday night. I barely slept. I just had ideas and was coding, coding, coding.” The entire process, from coding to hardware assembly, was accomplished in an astonishing two days, showcasing her dedication and technical expertise.

After showcasing her pastel, compact console on TikTok, Brianna received an enthusiastic response from her audience. Despite the overwhelming interest, she explained that mass production of these custom devices would be unfeasible due to the intricate labor involved. However, she is actively investigating options to make “Latte Mania”available for online play through web browsers, allowing a wider audience to enjoy her work.

This project highlights a trend where enthusiasts transform everyday items into engaging gaming experiences. For more inspiring stories about creative modifications, check out how one modder revamped an Apple Watch into a retro 90s accessory.
