Twitch streamer Lululuvely recently disclosed a concerning security issue regarding the PC she utilized during her time at TwitchCon. She revealed that the device had a ‘hijacker’ program installed, raising alarms about the safety of her accounts.

TwitchCon: A Hub for Streaming Enthusiasts

TwitchCon is an annual celebration organized by Twitch that brings together streamers, staff members, and fans for a weekend full of events in San Diego. This year’s gathering, however, was overshadowed by various incidents and security concerns.

Event Security Under Scrutiny

A notable incident involved popular streamer Emiru, who experienced an unwelcome encounter during her meet and greet when a man attempted to kiss her without consent. Although Twitch had pledged to enhance security after pre-emptive warnings from several streamers, Emiru contested claims from Twitch CEO Dan Clancy that security responded promptly to remove the assailant.

Lululuvely’s Malware Discovery

Amidst this turmoil, Lululuvely raised her own security concerns related to the PC she used. She reported an alarming discovery—while streaming, a browser hijacker program, identified as SafeFinder, commenced operating inappropriately.“I was streaming, and the browsers started opening up and typing things in on their own, ” she described.

Understanding the SafeFinder Threat

SafeFinder, classified by Microsoft as malware, masquerades as a browser while redirecting users to harmful advertisements and unsafe webpages. This not only breeds anxiety but also poses serious risks to personal data, potentially leading to theft.

Lululuvely expressed her frustration, noting that while her experience wasn’t the most severe incident at TwitchCon, it was perplexing that other attendees had not raised similar concerns. She has since taken precautionary measures by changing her passwords to secure her accounts.

VTubers Share Their Disappointments

The discontent among TwitchCon attendees extended beyond Lululuvely’s discovery. Many VTubers reported feelings of betrayal after staff allegedly discarded fan gifts, leading to further disillusionment regarding event organization and treatment of creators.
