In the latest update of *The First Descendant*, Season 2 Episode 2: Beyond the Void introduces a new playable character, Serena. Equipped with a powerful ranged DPS capability, Serena employs a unique device that enables her to soar through the skies, unleashing devastation upon her foes from above.
With her dual role as a DPS and support character, Serena excels both in solo missions and cooperative team play. This guide provides the quickest route to unlocking Serena and utilizing her unique skills effectively.
Unlocking Serena in *The First Descendant*

To initiate the process of unlocking Serena, players will need to gather four essential materials, including the exclusive Serena Code. These components are primarily sourced from the newly introduced event zone in Season 2 Episode 2. The following table outlines the specific materials required:
| Serena Enhanced Cells | Serena Stabilizer | Serena Spiral Catalyst | Serena Code |
| Semi-Permanent Plasma x290 | Superfluid x571 | Metal Accelerator x519 | Serena Code – drops from Broken Boundary Operation |
| Monomolecular Extractor x499 | Nanopolymers x363 | Silicon x430 | |
| Veildust x26 | Veildust x26 | Veildust x26 | |
| Serena Enhanced Cell Blueprint (Broken Boundary Operation) | Serena Stabilizer Blueprint (Isolated Desert Operation) | Serena Spiral Catalyst Blueprint (Isolated Desert Operation) |
Once all required materials are collected, head to the Research Institute or consult with Anais in Albion. Navigate to the Descendant tab to initiate Serena’s research.
Researching each material takes approximately eight hours, while the entire process for unlocking Serena spans around 16 hours. Therefore, even with consistent play, expect to invest a full day for farming materials followed by another day for research.
The new resources introduced this season, such as Veildust and Serena’s blueprint, are obtained from the newly unlocked event area that becomes available after completing the Void Vessel and Sigma-Sector questline.
Completing the Sigma-Sector Event Quest

The Sigma-Sector questline is accessible upon completing the initial Void Vessel mission. After logging in during the event, you will find the quest available in your Quest tab. Make sure to follow the dialogue closely, as it will guide you through various interactions with NPCs in Albion.
To assist you, here is a summary of the steps involved in the questline:
- Complete the initial Void Vessel mission.
- Return to Albion for additional dialogue.
- Visit Kingston Base to continue the conversation.
- Proceed to White-Night Gulch shipment base waypoint for further instructions.
- Complete The Resumption of Battle mission – finish Fortress Outskirts on Hard difficulty (White-Night Gulch).
- Open the journal received after completing the mission.
- Return to the shipment base for ongoing dialogue.
- Interact with the data point to collect necessary information.
- Teleport to the Hatchery in White-Night Gulch and engage with Gley.
- Teleport to the Observatory and speak with Enzo.
- Complete the Eye of Truth Mission on Hard difficulty and defeat the Alternate Hand of Nazeistra.
- Return to Albion to wrap up the dialogues.
After navigating through the extensive questline, you will unlock access to the Sigma-Sector, where new operations can be completed. These operations can be undertaken in normal, hard, public, or private settings. While you can start these operations without completing the entire questline, finishing it is highly recommended to fully experience the event.
Chances are you’ll be running these operations multiple times in pursuit of Serena’s blueprint. Ultimately, acquiring her materials will depend on your luck during the farming process.
