Rumored Noragami Anime Sequel in Production at Studio BONES

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, @Tsumizee (Tsumi), a user formerly known as X on Twitter, claimed that a sequel to the beloved Noragami anime series was in the works. Tsumi also stated that their sources, which have not been confirmed, revealed that Kotaro Tamura will be involved in the production. This implies that studio BONES, who previously produced the show, will likely be behind the new season since Tamura had directed previous seasons.

As of this article’s writing, there is no solid evidence to support the news, and only Tsumi has mentioned the possibility of a Noragami anime sequel. However, it should be noted that Tsumi has a history of accurately reporting alleged information well in advance of larger sources such as @MangaMoguraRE and @WSJ_manga.

Despite lacking corroboration, there is some validity to Tsumi’s claim that the Noragami anime series, based on the manga by Adachitoka, has not produced any new material since its second season, titled Aragoto, aired in Fall 2015.

Rumors Suggest a Sequel for the Anime Series Noragami is Currently in Production

Despite its popularity among those who discovered and watched the series, the Noragami anime did not have as wide of a reach as other popular anime series during its time. This ultimately affected the popularity of BONES’ production and may be the reason why a follow-up to the second season was never created.

Despite the series being over, there has been a resurgence of excitement around it in recent months due to two main factors. The first is the widespread discussions about the anime series on various online platforms. The second, and most significant, is that the manga series officially concluded in January 2024, igniting further conversations about its ending.

Similarly, these advancements further enhance the credibility of Tsumi’s claims, despite the absence of any confirmation from other sources. However, it is advisable for fans to regard this supposed leak about the Noragami anime as mere speculation until it is validated by other sources or officially announced by BONES.

Adachitoka’s original manga was initially published in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine in December 2010. The series ran for a span of 14 years until its conclusion in January 2024. In total, the mainline series consisted of 109 chapters and 27 volumes, with an additional 3 volumes compiling 13 supplementary “stories”.

The TV anime series debuted in January 2014 and concluded in March of the same year with a total of 12 episodes and two OVAs that were also broadcast. The second season premiered in October 2015 and concluded in December of that year with 13 episodes and two additional OVAs.
