Through a combination of Valve leaks and data mining, it has been uncovered that a game titled HLX/Project White Sands is currently in the works. After years of anticipation, it appears that Half-Life 3 may finally be on the horizon.
Despite an unannounced project, Deadlock, it has been challenging to determine what Valve has been working on in recent years. However, leaked gameplay footage and discussions from various creators have all but confirmed its existence as a multiplayer, MOBA-like shooter from Valve.
Despite the increasing availability of information on Deadlock, dataminers are still faced with the challenge of sorting through the pieces and determining what is and isn’t connected to the game.
Tyler McVicker, a well-known leaker and dataminer for Valve, has suggested that Half-Life 3 is currently in the works. Evidence from public statements made by actors and former employees, along with data mined enemy types, strongly point towards the return of the Half-Life franchise.
An actress who was part of the project included a mention of “Project White Sands,”a game from Valve that does not correspond with any of the previously discovered code names for Deadlock. Although the credit was initially included in their resume, it has since been removed.
This aligns with a statement made by a former Valve employee who was involved in level design for a Valve project that has yet to be announced. The project involved creating layouts, lighting, combat encounters, and puzzles.
Furthermore, their resume indicated that they had been involved in the game’s development from 2020 to 2023, suggesting that it could have been in progress for multiple years.
Given that Deadlock is a multiplayer game with a similar style to MOBAs, the portrayal of puzzles and battles does not align with this type of gameplay. Additionally, McVicker’s data mining has uncovered Xen enemies and an HEV suit, further contradicting the game’s intended style.
Possible inclusions in the game could potentially include Xen Jellyfish, Xen Gorillas, Swoopers, Pentatanks, Feral Manhacks, and other enemies. However, there is currently no indication as to the appearance of these potential foes.
Despite this, it remains the most concrete news we have received about a potential new Half-Life installment. While it is possible that this could be yet another spinoff as part of Valve’s ongoing avoidance of the number three, there is also a glimmer of hope that this could finally be the long-awaited Half-Life 3 that fans have been waiting for for nearly twenty years.
