It appears that the controversy surrounding Ryan Murphy’s provocative series, *Monsters: The Menendez Brothers*, is far from settled, as he teases the potential for future installments.
The series, titled *Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story*, initially soared in popularity on the streaming platform but faced significant backlash due to its implications of incest. In response, Ryan Murphy defended his creative decision, claiming a duty to incorporate these controversial elements, even though Erik Menendez issued a statement from prison criticizing the portrayal.
There are rumors that additional episodes could follow should the Menendez brothers receive lighter sentences or be released from incarceration.
“Discussions about this have taken place, I can confirm that,” Murphy shared [via Variety]. “There’s a strong interest surrounding this story, and I believe that there’s a desire to see how it unfolds, as it’s far from over.”
Murphy had previously hinted to the publication that the return of original cast members Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch would be necessary for any new episodes.
Since the show’s debut, the allegations of sexual and emotional abuse the brothers endured at the hands of their parents have resurfaced in public discussions.
On October 16, Erik and Lyle’s relatives, along with their attorney, Mark Geragos, held a press conference outside the LA Courthouse advocating for the brothers’ release.
This renewed effort comes after Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced a review of the case, which could lead to a re-sentencing or a new trial. An update on his decision is expected by the end of November.
Earlier this month, Murphy faced backlash for stating to The Hollywood Reporter, “The Menendez brothers should be grateful to me. They’ve not enjoyed this level of attention in three decades.”
