Ryan Reynolds Issues Apology to Rob McElhenney for Excluding Deadpool and Wolverine Cameo in Funny Birthday Video

Rob McElhenney was initially slated to make a cameo appearance as a TVA guard in the upcoming film, Deadpool & Wolverine. However, despite the anticipation, his scene ultimately did not make the final cut. In a heartfelt gesture a year later, Ryan Reynolds has devised a clever way to apologize for this oversight.
Beyond their professional relationship, Reynolds and McElhenney share a strong friendship and partnership, having collaborated to acquire Wrexham AFC in Wales back in 2020. The actor expressed his desire to include McElhenney in Deadpool & Wolverine, but admitted that the sequence “wasn’t working, ”leaving him feeling “mortified”about omitting his friend’s cameo.
Ryan Reynolds Celebrates Rob McElhenney’s Birthday with a Unique Tribute
To commemorate McElhenney’s birthday, Reynolds crafted a creative solution: he decided to insert him into various projects from his filmography. In a light-hearted video opener, Reynolds states, “Robert, happy birthday! My god, another year, another trip around the old Keith Moon. So many highs, and so many lows.”
He humorously juxtaposes the “incredible highs”of McElhenney’s cameo with the “incredible lows”of its exclusion, leading into an amusing montage featuring clips from Reynolds’ previous films such as Free Guy, The Amityville Horror, Blade: Trinity, Just Friends, Red Notice, The Proposal, RIPD, The Voices, Woman in Gold, Green Lantern, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, Detective Pikachu, and Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place.
Wrapping up the video, Reynolds adds a personal touch saying, “Well I love you, I miss you, and bye – oh, and happy birthday.”
Upon learning that his cameo had been cut from Deadpool & Wolverine, McElhenney humorously tweeted, “I traveled 6 thousand miles to shoot my cameo. I hope you enjoyed it because the theater I was watching in had mistakenly cut it out.” He lightheartedly reassured his fans that he looked forward to catching the film, hopeful for a glimpse of his performance.
In a follow-up Instagram post, Reynolds reflected on the situation by stating, “killing a darling with this cameo.” He conveyed his appreciation for McElhenney’s presence on set, expressing gratitude for his friend’s support during filming.“When I see Rob, my heart rate slows and my nervous system stops yelling at me. He shows up for people. And he showed up for me, ” Reynolds acknowledged.
